Control Rubber Type

The control rubber is the heart of the flow control valve…

…it flexes as the pressure differential across it varies – the higher the pressure the smaller the orifice: thus the constant flow rate i.e. volume.

Flow control valves can be used in different chemical environments – and not all rubber types are appropriate in all environments. For example, caustic degrades Nitrile rubber, and oil dissolves EPDM rubber.

Chlorine attacks many rubber types.

So the flow control rubber type must be matched to the chemical it’s controlling the flow of.

Temperature is also a factor in selecting control rubber types, as well as pressure differential i.e. difference between flow valve inlet pressure and valve outlet pressure.

For quiet valve operation, we recommend Kwyflo control rubber types.

The 3 main control rubber types that we offer, cover most chemical environments, and includes Nitrile Butadiene, EPDM, and Fluroelastomer (Viton).

Precision Nitrile type are supplied as standard unless otherwise requested.

Factors to consider when selecting alternative control rubbers for the valves – include:

  • Maximum pressure differential
  • Compatibility with chemical environment
  • Operating temperature
  • Noise
  • Body material compatibility
